Job Summary

The school Nurse manages and coordinates the assigned school’s health services program based on requirements established by the school division policies, procedures, and protocols, and by local, state, and federal regulations and statues; maintains and operates the school clinic.
 

  • Administer first aid to staff/ students, medication, and specialized medical treatments for the    purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children in   accordance with State laws and district policies
  • Counsel students and families on health conditions and lifestyle issues (e.g., mental health, pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease, substance abuse, etc.) to facilitate a healthier student population
  • Provide care to students with chronic illnesses and high-risk students with allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures, medically fragile, etc. to assist the student to achieve the highest possible functional level
  • Monitor students referred for illness and/or injury for attending to their immediate health care concerns and follow up care
  • Provide training on variety of health-related subjects, child abuse, medication management, policies and procedures, substance abuse, growth and development, food allergies, hygiene, etc. to promote a healthy lifestyle
  • Respond to emergency medical situations (e.g., severe falls, seizures, prescription reactions, bleeding, etc.)

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN)
  • Active NYS Registered Nursing license without restrictions 
  • A minimum of one year of nursing experience
  • Experience in community health, pediatrics, emergency care, and/or physician’s office preferred
  • Maintain current certification every two years for Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare professionals (BCLS)
  • Maintain current and up to date CEU’s on new school nursing information

Appointment Status: Permanent

Position Status: Full time

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000

Start Date: ASAP

New York State Education Department Fingerprinting is required for all positions. CSAT offers a very competitive salary, benefits and is a member of the New York State Retirement System.
